Young Muslims - Initial workshops

Sandra Hall and Video and Animation artist Babis Alexiadis worked with a group of young Muslim men to develop a series of films that reflect some of the surprising and humorous aspects of being a young Muslim man in Britain today. The workshops started off with facilitated discussions about how identities are represented in the media and in the arts. We looked at and discussed how different types of representation define real and imagined identities and how representation can be both informative and true and also misleading and false. We also observed different cultural interactions notably on a day trip in Birmingham city centre on St Patrick’s day, where the carnival atmosphere created a sense of union amongst a diverse range of people.

St PatrickThe group also went on a self organised trip to the Peak District and embarked on a journey to explore the roots of their faith: “Going back to Basics” Trip to the Peak District- Sheffiled UK

The group then decided to make a film exploring some of the hidden aspects of their daily routines and collective identity. We are continuing work with the group and some of the members will be taking part in facilitating discussions inside the Heard and Not Seen installation artwork.

I’d love to see the film. Is it available on youtube or vimeo?
